Description:
Head of North America – Lumber & Building Materials Solutions
Remote, USA
Osborne Recruitment is partnering with a global software company as they continue to expand their presence across North America. Our client provides innovative business management solutions to independently owned businesses within the lumber and building materials (LBM) industry, helping them streamline operations and drive growth.
Role Synopsis
Our client is seeking a strategic industry leader to play a pivotal role in driving its growth across North America. Acting as the authoritative link between the North American lumber and building materials (LBM) market and the company's European operations, this position will serve as the “voice of the market,” ensuring products, implementations, and business strategies align with the operational and commercial realities of the U.S. LBM industry. The role combines industry expertise, customer advocacy, strategic influence, and cross-functional leadership to accelerate customer success, support scalable growth, and strengthen the client's market position in North America.
Key Responsibilities
- Act as a strategic bridge between customer needs and internal teams, including Delivery, Product, and Development.
- Influence product strategy and development to ensure solutions meet the commercial and competitive demands of the U.S. market.
- Drive customer success by accelerating outcomes and reducing implementation risk.
- Using real-world operational insight, identify customer pain points, friction, and optimal workflows.
- Prioritize implementation speed, delivering immediate workarounds and practical solutions.
- Balance delivery based on customer urgency and maintaining market credibility.
- Apply a roadmap-driven approach focused on prioritization and structured release cycles.
- Move at release-cycle speed, delivering longer-term architectural improvements.
- Prioritize technical scalability and architectural integrity.
- Understand and be the source of truth in the market including reviewing failed assumptions, process gaps, and the urgent requirements of onboarding customers.
- Ensure implementations reflect the operational realities and best practices of the North American LBM industry.
- Anticipate customer needs and market requirements through deep industry knowledge and expertise.
- Monitor market trends, emerging opportunities, and customer expectations within the U.S. LBM sector.
- Analyze the competitive ERP landscape and provide strategic insights to support market growth.
- Build and maintain relationships with industry influencers, associations, and buying groups.
- Challenge and offer alternative software design opportunities that may enhance operational delivery.
- Apply real world operational experience to validate proposed solutions.
- Articulate grounded functional requirements from complex ideas and knowledge.
- Act as a senior escalation point for projects requiring operational alignment or industry guidance.
- Promote standardized, scalable delivery approaches by encouraging the adoption of proven industry processes over excessive customization.
- Serve as a trusted partner to customers during workshops, steering committee meetings, and strategic planning sessions.
- Educate and mentor internal teams—including developers, consultants, and project managers—on North American LBM business practices and market dynamics.
Experience:
- A minimum of 10 years' experience within the U.S. lumber and building materials (LBM) industry is essential.
- Demonstrated experience working within both an LBM merchant/distribution environment and the ERP software sector, with a strong understanding of the intersection between operations and technology.
- Must have advanced knowledge of implementation, development, and usage of industry-related ERP systems (Epicor, BisTrack, Spruce, ECI, Agility, DMSi, etc.).
- Comprehensive knowledge of core LBM business functions, including purchasing, inventory management, pricing, dispatch, sales, estimating, rebate programs, EDI integrations, and multi-branch distribution operations.
- Exceptional ability to translate complex concepts into clear, actionable insights and effectively influence senior stakeholders through expertise, credibility, and relationship-building rather than formal authority.
